Accessories for
Imaging Products
Accessories are used to convey signals between the host
computer and external devices such as cameras, wavelength switchers,
filter changers, and analog and digital circuits. |
|
DIO-3 Cable Interface
The DIO-3 Cable Interface connects between the parallel
port on the host computer and the external devices such as a
filter switcher.
The DIO-3 Cable Interface includes a 'break-out box' and a
25- wire cable. The cable brings all lines of a parallel output
port to the two DB-25 connectors on the box. Certain lines are
also brought to BNC connectors on the front panel.
|
|
The following table shows devices controlled
by Imaging Workbench via the parallel output port. |
BNC Name |
Purpose |
|
|
Sutter Instrument
Lambda 10 and
Lambda 10-2 |
Control the filter wheel and shutter of the
Lambda 10-2, and the wheel of the Lambda 10. Note that the
optional shutter on the Lambda 10 is controlled by the SHUTTER
control line on the DIO-3.
|
Trigger In |
Allow synchronization of episodic recording by Imaging
Workbench 5 with other data acquisition/stimulation hardware
and software. An example application is simultaneous synchronized
episodic recording made with Imaging Workbench and with Axon
Instruments Digidata 1320 or 1200 under control of software
such as pClamp (pClamp digital command -> Digidata Digital
Out -> DIO-3 Trigger In -> Imaging Workbench start sweep).
Used if Imaging Workbench is to act as the slave and the other
computer system as the master. Imaging Workbench requires
a high digital (TTL) pulse as trigger.
|
Trigger Out |
Similar purpose as for Trigger In described
above, but used if Imaging Workbench is to act as master
and the other system as slave. Imaging Workbench
issues a HIGH digital (TTL) pulse whose duration can be changed.
|
Integrate |
Control the time of on-chip image integration
on CCD video cameras having this capability
|
Shutter |
Control the optional shutter on the Sutter Instrument
Lambda 10, and on other illumination control devices. This
is not used by the TILL Photonics Polychrome; this needs a
special PCI interface, described below.
|
Auxiliary |
Additional functionality, e.g. select the optical bandpass
filter in the two filter illumination control devices.
|
Interface to Monochromators
For TILL Photonic Polychrome monochrometer or Cairn Research Optoscan
monochrometer, the relation between wavelength and voltage is linear
or nearly so. Imaging Workbench 5 can control the wavelength of the
output light from Polychrome by controlling the analog voltage input
to it via an interface card such as the National Instruments PCI6711,
Data Translation DT331 or Measurement Computing CIO-DAC02. The first
two are PCI bus devices, and the third, an ISA bus device. This board
is plugged into an slot of the computer, and IW5 can control its output
directly.
